No. 194.
Hongkong.
My Lord,
160
BP 28 NUG 08
Government House,
Hongkong, 28th. July, 1908.
I have the honour to inform Your
Lordship that on the 10th. January, 1906, Dr. Ho Kail, Mr.
Wei Yuk, and other members of the Chinese Community of
this Colony made application to the Government for the
grant of a piece of land on which to build a Smallpox
Hospital. They desire such a Hospital because the majority
of the Chinese population prefer when suffering from
Smallpox to be treated in a native Hospital rather than
in the Government Hospital Hulk "Hygeia".
2.
This application was approved by
Sir M. Nathan, but the site originally selected for the
purpose at Kennedy Town did not commend itself to the
Principal Civil Medical Officer, and for this reason no
action was taken at the time.
3.
Subsequently, the application
was renewed by the Tung Wa Hospital, and on the 19th.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE EARL OF CREVE,
